SHANNON SPAKE: Adam, some surprising news for Hendrick Motorsports and Team 48. Lowe’s announced a short time ago that they will not return as a sponsor to Jimmy Johnson’s Chevy after the 2018 season. So Lowe’s has been a primary sponsor since 2001, his entire cup career, including those record-tying seven championships.
Team owner Rick Hendrick said in part, “We are so appreciative of everyone at Lowe’s. They have been amazing partners.” He went on to say, “This change opens up all kinds of possibilities. And we look forward to having conversations with potential new sponsors.”
– Couple of big stories out today. The issues for the number nine, and also, Lowe’s announcing no longer going to be a part of that 48 team, Larry.
– Yeah, I did not see this one coming. You know, Lowe’s, they’ve been with that 48 team now for 17 years, every win, every championship. It’s one of the few primary sponsors that’s on a car almost every single week.
And Lowe’s have been in our sport for, probably, close to 25 years. In fact, I was with the Lowe’s team at Richard Childress Racing, ’98, ’99, and 2000. So this is some alarming news. I think a little bit of a surprise to a lot of people.
– Certainly is. And the big news for Hendrick Motorsports [INAUDIBLE].
