Friday’s lone Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Auto Club Speedway was interrupted by an uninvited, unexpected and surprisingly calm and collected guest.
That’s right. Who.
In other words, it was an owl — who sat nonplussed on the 2-mile track as cars zoomed by doing up to 200 miles per hour before practice was halted and track officials attempted to escort the big bird to safety with apparent limited success.
It wasn’t the first time nature intervened to complicate issues at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
Two years ago, a swarm of bees invaded the XFINITY Series hauler of driver Derrike Cope. And last year, another swarm of bees briefly took over the flagstand.
But the owl’s appearance made for a much more exciting highlight, especially when it finally evaded track workers and attempted to fly away. Check it out in the video above.
